Man hit partner’s dog with a kettle, court told

A 58-year-old man has appeared in court charged with causing criminal damage to his partner's dog by hitting the pet, named Baby, on the head with a kettle.

Brian Taggart is alleged to have committed the offence at his Moyagoney home in Portglenone on Sunday.

He's also charged with threatening to kill his partner, assaulting her, possessing a kitchen knife and with causing criminal damage to a landrover.

District Judge Eamon King was told that the charges related to a row over two dogs. A police officer said the defendant and his partner were in a 20-year relationship and since 2004 there had been a history of domestic violence involving them.

The officer said that both the defendant and his partner “had drink taken”.

The defendant was released on bail of £500 on condition that he moved out of his home to another address approved by the PSNI.

He is due to appear in court again tomorrow in Magherafelt.
