A 50-year-old man appeared in court in Belfast yesterday charged with murdering a convicted killer 23 years ago.
Diagnosed psychopath Stanley Close (65) was found strangled in his flat at Canton Court in the Willowfield area of east Belfast in August 1986.
He had previously served 10 years in jail for shooting bricklayer Kevin Kielty dead at the Pavillion Bar on the Ormeau Road in July 1971.
David Mayberry Wallace, originally from Northern Ireland, but whose address was given as Shaw Street, Bury, appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court on Saturday accused of murdering Close. Wallace was arrested in England on Tuesday following a joint operation between the PSNI and Manchester police.
Wallace was remanded in custody to appear in court again on May 21.
