McCusker death: Man to appear in court

A 21-year-old man is expected to appear in Strabane Magistrates’ Court today charged with the manslaughter of Connor McCusker in Co Tyrone.

Mr McCusker (31), the brother of GAA star Niall McCusker, died on Monday after sustaining serious injuries during an attack outside a Cookstown nightclub.

He had been on a night out with his brother when he was involved in a fight outside the Mint Cafe Bar in the town in the early hours of Sunday.

The 21-year-old was arrested at the scene of the incident in James Street and detectives were granted an extension to question him.

Mr McCusker was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where he underwent emergency surgery, but died on Monday afternoon.

His father said the family — including Niall, the vice-captain of the Derry GAA team — were devastated by the tragedy.

Connor had played for the Ballinderry Shamrocks GAA club.
