Michael Jackson fans wait to hear if they’ll get O2 show refund
Saturday, 27 June 2009
Thousands of Michael Jackson fans who bought tickets to see his comeback shows at London's O2 are waiting to see if they will get their money back.
Some retailers yesterday said refunds would be issued but others have yet to reveal what action will be taken.
Following the singer's death, retailer Seatwave and ticket exchange site viagogo both said they would refund ticketholders.
Advising fans to use its website to arrange a refund, Seatwave said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of Michael Jackson and offer our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and fans.
“The whole world has lost a fantastic performing artist. At this time, we would like to reassure you that your Michael Jackson ticket purchase is fully covered.”
Ticket exchange company viagogo also issued a statement which said: “All Michael Jackson tickets purchased through viagogo will be refunded directly to fans.
“No forms, no fuss, just refunded. We will be in touch with everyone in due course.”
A spokesman for AEG Live, the organiser of the 50 concerts, said: “At this time our thoughts are with Michael's children, family and friends. We will announce ticketing details in due course.”
Retailer Ticketmaster said it was waiting for “official information”. A statement on its website said: “We have no official information at this stage. As soon as we have any information, we will immediately contact all customers who have booked tickets through Ticketmaster.”
Lastminute.com's website said: “We are currently working with the event organiser, AEG, which supplied the tickets, to provide any affected customers with the latest information regarding issues surrounding concert tickets and hotel packages.”
Fans who bought tickets through third parties — face prices were from £50 to £75 — or at a premium may find themselves out of pocket.
