A milkman awarded an MBE for acting as the eyes and ears of the police during his rounds has vowed to collect his honour dressed as a Friesian cow.
Tony Fowler has helped officers catch a string of criminals by keeping a lookout for suspicious behaviour, foiling burglaries, youths joy riding, drug deals and blocking car thieves with his milk float.
He also befriends the frail and elderly and provides whatever help he can during his deliveries to 25 villages around the town of Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire.
Mr Fowler will collect the MBE from the Queen at an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace tomorrow in a suit made to resemble a cow by one of his customers.
The 51-year-old, from the village of Grimston near Melton Mowbray, said: “My wife Anne is not pleased about me going as a cow but I just want to do something different.
“Milkmen and women are very quiet people usually — except for me.”
