Motorist, 24, killed after car hits tree

A man has died after a car crash in Co Tyrone, the fourth person to die on Northern Ireland’s roads so far this week.

The victim (24) sustained serious head injuries after his car struck a tree at Tattymoyle Road near Fintona shortly before midnight on Thursday. He died in Erne Hospital in Enniskillen yesterday morning.

The name of the dead man has not yet been released.

Bert Wilson, an Ulster Unionist councillor in the area, said it was another tragedy for the community and urged motorists to take greater care on the roads.

“This is very unfortunate,” he said. “It leaves a very sad home and this is a tragedy which will not be forgotten by the family and wider community.

“I’m sure I speak for everyone in the community in expressing my sympathy to the family circle. It’s a real tragedy for the family.”

Police want to hear from anyone who saw the collision, came across the scene or noticed the silver Mitsubishi car beforehand. The number to call is 0845 600 8000.

Earlier this week two Indian men were killed after their car crashed into an oncoming bus and car on the main Belfast to Larne road. Another man was killed when his car hit a wall near Kilkeel in Co Down.
