Sexy singer Nadine Coyle will be crossing her fingers tonight as Girls Aloud battle it out in two categories in this year’s Brit Awards.
The Londonderry singer and the rest of the chart-topping band are nominated in two of the most closely contested categories — Best British Single and Best Group.
In the Best Single category, the band’s Sixties-influenced number one hit The Promise is hotly tipped to win, although it is up against some tough competition in the form of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida, Mercy by Duffy, Better In Time by Leona Lewis and Scouting For Girl’s Heartbeat.
The five-piece are also in the running for Best British Group and will fight it out against Coldplay again, whom they are supporting at Wembley Stadium next summer. The other nominations for Best Group are Elbow, Radiohead and Take That.
Leading the way with four nominations each are Coldplay and Welsh crooner Duffy, both of whom played Belfast in December.
Coldplay are also hoping to win Best Live Act and Best Album, while Duffy is also up for Best Female, Best Breakthrough Act, and Best Album for Rockferry.
In the Best Female category Duffy is pitted against Adele, Estelle, Mia and Beth Rowley.
The contenders for Best Male Solo Act are Paul Weller, James Morrison, Ian Brown, The Streets and Will Young. In the Best British Breakthrough group Duffy and Adele will go up against The Ting Tings, Last Shadow Puppets and Scouting For Girls.
The Earl’s Court show will be hosted by Kylie Minogue.
