New Belfast LGBT centre officially opened

Monday, 14 December 2009

Belfast Lord Mayor Naomi Long has officially opened the first Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) centre in Belfast.

The Centre houses Cara-Friend, The Rainbow Project and Lesbian Advocacy Services.

The three organisations have made the facilities available to all LGBT community groups in the wider Belfast area.

In Video: Gary Grattan reports

Mirjam Bader, the Director of The Rainbow Project said: "The development of the centre is a major achievement for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Sector in Belfast and will enable the community to increase partnership working, share resources, provide more support to individual LGBT people, raise the profile of same-sex attracted people and work towards improving good relations between people of different sexual orientations.’

"The opening of the first LGBT centre for Belfast is also an important development for the city as whole. We are honoured to have Lord Mayor, who has themed her year in office as ‘Belfast without Barriers’, opening our premises.

"The development of this centre, which will provide improved service delivery, an increased profile for LGBT people in this city and further opportunities to increase good relations, will go a long way to breaking down the barriers faced by same-sex attracted people in the city of Belfast".

The Lord Mayor said she was delighted to have been invited along to perform the official opening and pledged to do everything she could to open doors for the associated groups regarding attracting future funding.

a fantastic resource for belfast. always refreshing when organisation work together rather than fight for similar funding. we are all part of this community and finally catching up with other cities! feel the love :)

This new centre is a home for many groups including a couple that are faith based. For some in our community God plays a significant role in their lives and that is to be respcted. We in the gay community are open and honest in that regard....and you know what I think Jesus would be too. I as a volunteer with The Rainbow Project look forward to some years engaging, and having conversations with those with the integrity to listen and not just sit in judgement. I say this as one for whom faith is not a factor in my life.

To sum up, you opinion is respect of this matter is worth distinctly less than third-hand information.
That is unless you actually speak to God directly and the website you quote is a direct line to Him.
I can tell you that you have no knowledge of God other than what you have been told and would suggest you do some examining yourself, lest you think to be presumptuous as to speak for God himself directly.
That would be a dangerous road to take, don't you think?

People, people, don't be so opend minded, your brains might fall out!

Am I not also intitled to voice my opinion?

'And because they had not the mind to keep God in their knowledge, God gave them up to an evil mind, to do those things which are not right'
Romans

I can tell that you have no knowledge of God, and would suggest to do some examine yourself, He will Gudge, and you will bend the knee to Him someday.

Good luck to the LGBT centre. Stan and Trev, you two are made for each other, two brainwashed fools. Perhaps you should hook up, you never know where it might lead.

I would like to wish the LGBT community all the best with their new Centre in the Cathedral Quarter. It seems that this is something that has been needed for a long time to help educate our society. We have a wide range of cultures and beliefs that should supported and sustained.

Man = Man & Woman = Woman
Everything else disrupts God's intended plan for mankind, but we are a deprived race and have perverted creation.

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... Sunday's 30th anniversary screening of the seminal Too Late to Talk to Billy was riveting viewing. But it wasn't nostalgic viewing.

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
