A hospital is conducting a review after reports that an NHS nurse told a teenager's family about her secret abortion.
The 16-year-old girl was reportedly kicked out of her home after her devout Catholic mother heard about the abortion from the girl's aunt, who was friends with the nurse.
Luton and Dunstable Hospital said it was reviewing the circumstances of the case.
A spokeswoman said: “We are sorry to hear the distressing story that a patient has reported to the media. We encourage the patient to raise this matter directly with the hospital so that we can look further into the allegations.”
The alleged breach of patient confidentiality happened after the girl was taken to hospital for emergency treatment as she was suffering side effects from the abortion, according to newspaper reports.
The nurse allegedly recognised her and rang her aunt to tell her.
