A spell of high pressure brought with it soaring temperatures and bright sunshine which saw people across the province getting outside and making the most of the great outdoors.

On Friday, Ballykelly in Co Londonderry enjoyed the highest temperature in Northern Ireland at almost 25 degrees. The highest recorded temperature on Saturday was in Katesbridge, Co Down, where the mercury topped almost 25 degrees.

The heatwave continued yesterday and peaked at 26 degrees in Helen’s Bay in Co Down.

However, a cold front moving into Northern Ireland overnight was to bring with it some patches of drizzle and cloud today.

Maurice Scollie, a forecaster with the Met Office, said: “We can expect to see temperatures return to normal over the next few days and would expect to see them at about 14 or 15 degrees for this time of year.”
