A man tried to hide the key for a stolen Mercedes car between his buttocks, the High Court has heard.
Prosecutors said the keys for another vehicle also taken during an alleged cross-border raid were found in the suspect's garden.
Gerald Lavy (24), of Ardgrange, Londonderry, is accused of handling stolen goods and possessing cannabis.
Details emerged as Lavy sought the removal of a condition that he must put up a £2,000 cash surety before he can be bailed.
Mr Justice Hart agreed to lift the surety, but ordered that the rest of the conditions, including a curfew, must remain in place.
