A Facebook group supporting the family of an autistic Lisburn teenager who is in a coma after being battered unconscious last week has attracted more than 13,000 followers.
The Get Well Soon Scott Vineer group was created after it emerged that the 17-year-old had been kicked unconscious in the car park of a disused furniture store near the Lagan towpath.
Curtis Orr (18) from Lisburn is friendly with Scott through college. He told the Belfast Telegraph how he was compelled to set up the Facebook group to show Scott’s family that there are decent people who care a lot about his recovery.
“Scott is a genuine guy,” Curtis said. “He wouldn’t hurt a fly. I am hoping he pulls through and is okay.”
Messages of support have flooded the page. One woman said: “Everyone is thinking abut you and praying for your full recovery.”
On Thursday, a 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and the following night released on police bail.
