£1.3m to tackle Coleraine flooding

A £1.3m scheme to fix flooding in Coleraine’s town centre is to get under way later this month.

Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew welcomed the launch of the Rivers Agency scheme, which will involve new flood alleviation works as well as upgrading existing drainage infrastructure.

Environmental and fishery works will also be included and the scheme is set to start on January 17.

“The Anderson Park and |Millburn Road areas have |historically been troubled with flooding and this scheme has been designed to address these |problems,” Ms Gildernew said.

Work will take place on Railway Road, Brook Street, Mill House car park, Coleraine Leisure Centre car park and in the vicinity of Anderson Park. Disruption will be kept to a minimum but some diversions will be necessary, according to Rivers Agency.

The public can air their views at an open day next Thursday (Jan 13) from 1pm to 8pm in the Leisure Centre.
