£25,000 Belfast security van raid: one held

A man has been remanded in custody charged with a £25,000 theft from a cash-in-transit van in Belfast on Sunday.

Patrick Joseph McMahon is accused of involvement in the robbery of a security guard outside a shop on the Ormeau Road.

He was arrested by PSNI Organised Crime Branch officers investigating the attack.

McMahon (34), of Antrim Close, Belfast, is charged with robbing a courier of money to the value of £25,000 in a cashbox.

He is due to face two further counts of handling stolen goods — namely money and a Volkswagen Golf car.

Appearing with him at Belfast Magistrates Court was Tracy McMahon (27), of Torrens Avenue in the city. She is charged with assisting offenders.

Patrick McMahon did not seek bail during the short hearing.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall remanded him in custody to appear again by video-link on October 10.

Tracy McMahon was already on bail. She was released to return to court again on the same date as her co-accused.
