The decision to move the Balmoral Show to the site of the former Maze prison offers the event a bigger and better future, First Minister Peter Robinson has said.
He welcomed the decisive vote by members of the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society (RUAS) which will see the famous agricultural show move home.
The show has outgrown the King's Hall venue in Belfast it used for a century and will now move to a new site set to be entitled Balmoral Park at the Maze/Long Kesh redevelopment.
Mr Robinson said he expected infrastructure to be put in place over time, after calls were made for a link from the new venue to the nearby motorway.
"I very much welcome the decision and I think it is good for the RUAS, and also very good for the project as a whole," he said.
"It will provide a very strong anchor to the site.
"And it also allows the RUAS to develop in a way that they can't because they were constrained on the site that they had."
He added: "So it has massive potential and I believe we'll have a bigger and better show next year."
