Alert after 'viable' device found

The Police Service of Northern Ireland have said a viable pipe bomb has been found in Co Tyrone

A viable pipe bomb has been found in Co Tyrone.

A number of homes were evacuated during the alert at Springhill Park, Strabane.

The area was sealed off for several hours while Army bomb disposal experts examined the scene.

In a statement the PSNI said: "ATO examined a suspicious object discovered in the area and have declared it to be a viable pipe bomb type device."

Residents have been allowed to return to their homes and the area has re-opened to traffic.
