Anger over DUP's gay Pride 'snub'
Tuesday, 26 July 2011
Members from all the main political parties in the Assembly were represented at a gay pride event at Stormont - apart from the DUP.
The Pride on the Hill event yesterday, the first of its kind, formed part of a week-long series of events that culminates on Saturday with the annual festival parade, Belfast Pride.
At the Parliament Buildings event, politicians heard the concerns and challenges faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans- gender people.
In a statement the DUP said they weren't given enough time to supply a speaker.
Ulster Unionist MLA John McAllister said: "It blows a hole in the new cuddly image Peter Robinson has been trying to put out there."
