Northern Bank

Armed thieves who robbed a Co Armagh bank escaped with a substantial sum of money, police said.

A member of staff carrying out a cash in transit delivery at the Northern Bank branch in Crossmaglen was approached by two armed men at around 10.15am on Wednesday.

One of the men, who wore scarves over their faces, also demanded cash from a bank teller.

The thieves escaped the scene at the town's Cardinal O'Fiaich Square in a blue Vectra car.

The first man is described as being between 30 and 40 years old, about 5ft 6in tall, of medium build and was wearing white trainers, dark clothing, a high visibility jacket, red wig, baseball cap and a scarf over his face.

The second man was in his mid 20s, about 6ft tall, of medium build and was wearing a black, baseball cap, glasses, a scarf over his face, long sleeved grey top with blue horizontal stripes, navy trousers and a tan coloured workman's tool belt.

Police appealed for information on the robbery.
