A young woman charged with the attempted murder of a man who was beaten, stripped and dumped in a sealed bin has revoked her own bail, reportedly after receiving death threats.

Adam Robinson is recovering after he was set upon at a house party in an attack described as "torture" by a police officer.

The 20-year-old was found naked in the bin, the lid of which had been taped shut, by a man walking his dog in Sentry Hill Ballymena, Co Antrim, on September 3. Three people – two men and a woman – have since been charged with attempted murder and false imprisonment.

Paula Wilson (20), of Millfield in the town, had initially been granted bail after being charged.

However, at Ballymena Magistrates Court, a solicitor said she "had revoked her own bail" and was now in Hydebank Prison.

She was remanded in custody to appear via video-link next month. Two other co-accused – Teri Christopher Bernard Lau (26), of Dunclug Park, and David Roddy Patterson (26), of Glendun Drive – are also in custody.

Sources in the town said Wilson has been subjected to threats to her life since being charged.

A police spokeswoman yesterday said the PSNI do not comment on named individual cases.

At an earlier court hearing, Mr Robinson's father Mervyn confronted the three accused before being led away by security staff at the highly charged hearing.

The court heard the trio and Adam Robinson had been at a party in Dunclug before the attack.

A police officer said the injuries to Mr Robinson appeared to suggest he had been tortured.

A walker discovered and freed Mr Robinson from the bin after being alerted to it by his dog.

Mervyn Robinson said his son had been left to die "a long, lonely, slow death" and said the chance discovery saved his life.
