A security alert in Ballymena earlier today has been declared an elaborate hoax, police have said.

The alert took place in the Pentagon area of the town centre.

Army bomb teams were sent to the area after a suspicious object was found.

Diversions had been put in place at the Cullybackey Road, North Road and Ballymoney Road car park for a time.

They have since reopened.
