Hi °C | Lo °C A new stained-glass window costing £22,000 is to be erected in Belfast City Hall.
The window, dedicated to Irish myths and legends, will be part funded by the Office of First and Deputy First Minister and Belfast City Council and will be placed close to the reception area on the ground floor.
At a meeting this week, members were told Stormont had agreed to foot 75% of the bill while the council’s strategic policy and resources committee would meet the outstanding balance of £5,500.
The design of the window has yet to be confirmed. However, a council spokeswoman said they would be “inviting submissions” from artists in the near future.
Last year a new centenary window was installed to celebrate Northern Ireland’s past. It featured the Titanic, a Ferguson tractor and a number of books, representing artistic and creative voices, such as Seamus Heaney.
