Folk punk and left-wing political activist Billy Bragg has paid a visit to a protest group in Belfast city centre.

The silver-haired singer-songwriter joined the Occupy Belfast protesters at Writer's Square, opposite St Anne's Cathedral, ahead of his Belfast gig.

The small number of demonstrators are part of a worldwide protest - angry over what they believe is the western world's reliance on corporate greed.

Gerry Carroll was one of those protesting in Belfast.

"Billy Bragg was down here earlier giving his support to Occupy Belfast," he said.

"He also played a song, The Internationale, which is a track about justice against inequality," he added.

Paddy Nash, who is joining Billy Bragg on his tour of Ireland, also visited the protesters to show his support.

The group is calling on members of the public to join them for a 'Carnival of Resistance' this Saturday at 2pm in Writer's Square.
