Some people start a new job with cold feet — but not Belfast’s new Black Santa.
The Very Reverend John Mann, appointed Dean of Belfast earlier this year, has been taking advice from old hands ahead of the traditional charity sit-out at St Anne's Cathedral.
“They told me that the most important thing is to keep the feet warm,” he said, as he prepares for the first collection tomorrow morning at 8.45am.
“I have bought a stout pair of boots and thick socks to help me get through.”
For the first time in recent years, the sit-out has an overall target. The Dean, who will also be wearing the famous black coat, said: “I am asking for a total of at least £201,100, which is a donation of £100 for every year since Jesus was born.”
Another innovation is a Sunday sit-out, with the collection continuing every day next week.
