Agriculure Minister Michelle O’Neill has welcomed the review into bovine TB from the Assembly’s Agriculture committee.
The review, which was debated by the Assembly on Monday, warned that plans for a wildlife intervention strategy are welcome but come very late.
Under the plan officials would capture and test badgers for bovine TB. Infected badgers would be culled and healthy badgers vaccinated.
The DARD Committee announced its review in March to examine all possible measures to be taken to reduce and eradicate the disease in cattle and give some thought to the costs and benefits of various measures.
The Minister said that she will be interested to read the committee’s report in more detail, noting that DARD will provide a full response to it.
