Brothel accused home for Christmas

An Austrian woman accused of running a brothel and controlling prostitutes in Belfast can return home for Christmas, a judge has ruled.

Angelika Schneider (43) was granted permission to leave Northern Ireland to visit her children.

She has been ordered to return early in January for her next appearance at Belfast Magistrate’s Court.

Schneider, with an address at College Central Apartments in the city, has been charged with brothel keeping and controlling prostitution on dates in January this year.

She is not accused of any trafficking offences. As part of her bail conditions Schneider had to surrender her passport and report to the PSNI three times a week.

She applied to have the terms suspended to allow her to return home — understood to be in Germany.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall allowed a suspension of bail terms, from December 14 to January 4. She is due back in court on January 7.
