Caroline Wozniacki joins Rory McIlroy in victory

Rory McIlroy wasn't the only sports star lifting silverware yesterday – his ex Caroline Wozniacki also clocked up the latest title of her career.

The Danish tennis star gave her own world ranking a boost after clinching the WTA Istanbul Cup in a straight sets victory.

The 24-year-old sportswoman easily beat Italian Roberta Vinci 6-1, 6-1 yesterday to claim her first win since her very public break-up with the Co Down golfer earlier this year. It was her 35th career Women's Tennis Association final and the first of 2014.

Just days after McIlroy called time on their three-year relationship in May he went on to win the BMW PGA Championship, his first victory in 18 months, while Wozniacki crashed out of the French Open in the first round. She then failed to find her form at Wimbledon, only reaching the fourth round, but yesterday's win in Turkey ended her poor form.

As her ex-fiancé was sealing off a historic third Major, Caroline took to Twitter to share a picture of her lifting her latest trophy.

She wrote: "Woohoo! Title number 22! So excited."

It has been a turbulent few months for the sportswoman who had not been expecting the pair's engagement and relationship to end so abruptly.

McIlroy broke off the five-month engagement soon after invitations for their wedding – believed to be scheduled for November 8 in New York – were sent out.

Since the split Wozniacki – who was world number one when she met McIlroy and subsequently slipped down the rankings – has found solace in friends.

US tennis player Serena Williams is among those taking her out to have a good time – with pictures of their glamour filled nights out posted online to show she is not at home crying herself to sleep.

In typical post-break-up style, Wozniacki has made a few digs at her ex, such as referencing her beloved Liverpool FC on Twitter, in a move interpreted by some as having a go at Manchester United-supporting Rory.

She was also pictured sporting green, white and orange tennis gear, and last week the tennis star, who is 4cm taller than McIlroy, appeared to make a jibe at her ex-fiancé's height by posting a picture of herself wearing high heels on Instagram.

She wrote: "It's been three years since I have worn high heels on a normal day out. #feelsgood #looksgood."

The three years is believed to reference the duration of their relationship.

Perhaps thinking better of what she had done, Wozniacki has since deleted the post from Instagram.
