A defendant has told a Magistrates Court in Londonderry that the police prosecution of him was not justified.
Declan Hugh Smith (41), of Glenabbey Park, was charged with disorderly behaviour, blocking a road and resisting a police constable. He denies committing the offences on February 1 this year.
When asked by a court clerk if he understood the charges, the defendant replied: "If they were justified I would have to say yes, but I say no."
Told the matter was being adjourned until March 14, he said: "As long as the police tell the truth it should be OK."
District Judge Barney McElholm replied "I will be the arbiter of that in due course", and bailed Smith.
