Clear-the-air talks 'positive'

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and First Minister Peter Robinson have held 'clear the air' talks

Stormont's First Minister and Deputy First Minister have held intensive clear-the-air talks in a bid to improve fracturing relations at the head of Northern Ireland's power-sharing administration.

Democratic Unionist leader Peter Robinson and Sinn Fein veteran Martin McGuinness were engaged in discussions throughout the day inside Stormont Castle.

The unscheduled session was arranged at short notice to address an apparently deteriorating working relationship between the DUP and Sinn Fein, manifesting itself in a series of public spats between the parties on major issues facing the Executive.

A source close to the Executive said the talks had been productive.

"All parties agreed it was a positive meeting," said the source.
