A man who admitted assaulting his sister on Christmas Day last year has been jailed for four months.
Kevin Conaghan, from Lawrence Hill in Londonderry, was sentenced at the city’s magistrates’ court yesterday.
The 38-year-old — who has 232 criminal convictions — also admitted spitting at a police officer who arrested him after the incident.
A prosecution solicitor told District Judge Barney McElholm that police were called to an ongoing domestic assault in the victim's family home on December 25.
Conaghan's sister told the police that her brother had twice grabbed her by the throat and pushed her away.
Imposing the sentence, Mr McElholm described Conaghan as “a complete menace to society”.
