Weary legs are being rested after hundreds of cyclists completed the 30th anniversary Maracycle from Belfast to Dublin and back over the weekend, a total of 220 miles.

The Belfast Telegraph is a media partner in the Co-operation Ireland event which started in 1984 at the height of the Troubles as a way for people to show their support for peace and friendship between the two communities and both parts of the island.

Thirty years on the organisation still provides reconciliation and outreach programmes for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds on both sides of the divide and border.

The weather smiled on the pedallers with sunshine and light winds on both days making the tough ride that more enjoyable.

After the riders arrived in Dublin, World Cup games were screened at the overnight halt at Dublin City University, followed by music for those with enough energy left for dancing.

Co-operation Ireland chief executive Peter Sheridan thanked all those who took part in the charity's biggest annual fundraiser.

He said: "It's been a marvellous Maracycle with a great atmosphere and we couldn't have asked for better conditions."
