Dawn Purvis hails Somalia fundraiser

Two lucky workplaces have enjoyed a Christmas night out in style after winning the Belfast Telegraph Somalia Gala Ball competition.
Volunteers from Your Voice community project and the team from Children in Northern Ireland each won a table worth £900 for the “black and sparkly” themed event at the Stormont Hotel last night.
Staff from both organisations had a brilliant time at the event staged to raise money for the Red Cross East Africa Food Crisis Appeal.
It was organised by Prison Ombudsman Pauline McCabe and former East Belfast MLA Dawn Purvis.
“It feels great that the event has raised funds for the appeal,” said Ms Purvis.
Items auctioned at the ball included a dinner date in Dublin with Mr World, a snooker lesson with Ken Doherty and four tickets for the England v Ireland rugby game at Twickenham on Saint Patrick’s Day.
Music was provided by Belfast band The Big Kahuna and the Rassi Ai Rydimz Band, who performed at the opening of Derry’s Peace Bridge.
“The entertainment was wonderful and the auction has been a great success,” Ms Purvis added.
