Derry Guildhall rally to protest at cutbacks

Campaigners are calling for people to take part in a rally at the Guildhall in Londonderry today in protest against proposed Government cuts.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is spearheading an anti-cuts campaign which will include a union march in Belfast on October 23.

Eamonn McCann, from the People Before Profit Alliance, said: “We urge trades unionists, community activists and people of all political persuasions to come to the Guildhall.”

“The fall in the level of care for the elderly and the most vulnerable in the western area is a scandal and a disgrace.

“It underlines the need for a broad-based challenge to the cuts — and the deeper cuts which are coming.”
