Derry’s £10m homes boost

A new £10m social housing estate is to go ahead in Londonderry’s Creggan area after a three-year delay.

A total of 61 homes will be built on the site of the former United Technologies Factory on Bligh’s Lane.

Residents from the neighbouring area had previously objected to the scale of the plans, but it has emerged that issues have been resolved.

The new housing will consist of 40 three-bedroom houses, 15 two-bedroom houses and eight two-bedroom flats.

The Department for Social Development will pay £5.9m towards the estate.

It will cater for a mixture of people and families in housing need, including active older people.
