A 32-year-old male pedestrian was killed after being hit by a black Range Rover in Ballymena yesterday.
The collision, which police said was not a hit-an-run, happened yesterday at around 10.15am on William Street.
It’s understood the man, named locally as Paul McGuigan, was walking his dog when the collision happened.
PJ McEvoy, the SDLP mayor of Ballymena, said: “This is a terrible tragedy, and we can only offer our deepest sympathy to the family of this young man.”
His party colleague, councillor Declan O’Loan, said: “I know the McGuigan family well and I want to express my sincere sympathy to Paul's parents and his brother.
“The entire community was very shocked to hear the news of this tragic accident as they gathered at church at midday.”
Mr O’Loan said Paul’s parents Fred and Joan were well-known in the town. Paul also lived in the town.
Police have appealed for information from anyone who witnessed the collision.
