Driver injured in hammer attack

A car has been smashed up and a driver injured after a vehicle was forced to stop by men wielding hammers in Belfast on Tuesday.

Just before midnight, a man was driving on the Newtownbreda Road when his car was struck by another vehicle and forced to stop.

Two men carrying hammers got out of the vehicle and approached the man. He managed to get out of his car and escaped on foot.

The men got back into their vehicle and drove off.

The victim suffered minor injuries to his knee and ribs during the incident and substantial damage was caused to his car.

The vehicle involved in the incident is believed to have been a dark Honda CRV, which was seen driving erratically in the Lenaghan Park area a short time later when it was involved in a collision with a pedestrian. The pedestrian was not injured.
