Eight men arrested over stabbings

Officers from the PSNI are questioning eight men arrested in connection with stabbing incidents in Co Tyrone.

Eight men have been arrested in connection with stabbing incidents in Co Tyrone.

The men aged between 17 and 30 were detained on suspicion of attempted murder and a range of other offences including aggravated burglary and grievous bodily harm with intent.

One victim who is in his 20s was stabbed in the head during an incident at William Street, Cookstown, at about 2.30am this morning.

An hour later, a second man also aged in his 20s, suffered multiple puncture wounds to his body after being attacked in the Millburn Street and Moneymore Road area.

Both victims were taken to hospital for emergency treatment but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening and one has since been discharged.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) believe the two attacks could be linked.

A PSNI spokesman said the eight suspects were in custody helping police with their enquiries.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed disturbances at either location to come forward.
