Father cleared of raping teenager

A man charged with raping a 16-year-old girl at his son's 18th birthday party last year walked free from Londonderry Crown Court yesterday after the jury unanimously found him not guilty.

After fifty minutes of deliberations at the end of a six day trial, the jury also found the 52-year-old defendant not guilty by unanimous verdicts of two related charges of intentionally touching the girl in a sexual manner.

The defendant, who had denied the charges, wept after trial Judge Desmond Marrinan told him “you are free to go, you are free to leave the dock”.
