Festive ads aim to sell Belfast to the shoppers

A £250,000 marketing campaign has been launched to attract more shoppers from across Northern Ireland and the Republic to visit Belfast in the run-up to Christmas.

‘Famously Festive’ ads on television screens, radio airwaves and newspapers will show the city’s strengths as a retail destination.

Now in its fifth year, the campaign was developed by the Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau, and Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce.

The campaign is also backed by the Department for Social Development and, for the first time, Translink. Several promotions will encourage thousands of potential visitors to travel by bus, coach or rail to the city.

Park and ride facilities have been boosted and road improvement works have been suspended.

Joe Jordan, president of Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce, said the city is the “natural destination” of choice.

Lord Mayor Gavin Robinson said he was confident that the campaign would bring increased numbers of visitors to enjoy all that is on offer.

“Christmas is an important time of year for Belfast and for all those retailers, restaurants, hotels and visitor attractions which make us unique,” he said.
