Games off as tribute to tragic GAA star

The funeral of a popular GAA star killed in an accident at work will take place tomorrow.

Brian Og Maguire died after an industrial accident at a factory owned by the Quinn Group in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, on Thursday morning.

Mr Maguire (24) was a key member of his local GAA club Lisnaskea Emmetts and had represented his county at every level.

His remains were brought to his parents’ home in Lisnaskea last night. A funeral Mass will take place at 11am in Holy Cross Church in the village.

All Gaelic games planned over the weekend were cancelled as a mark of respect to Mr Maguire.

A rally organised in support of businessman Sean Quinn and his family, planned for tomorrow night, has also been cancelled.

A spokesperson for Fermanagh GAA County Committee said: “Due to the tragic death of Brian Og Maguire (we) have cancelled all club matches this weekend as a mark of respect.”

A Health and Safety Executive investigation into the cause of the accident has commenced, the firm confirmed.
