Should Northern Ireland football ditch God Save the Queen?

I think it would be a good idea to look at this issue of God Save the Queen. I’m not saying we do away with the national anthem but I think that another song could send a gesture towards those who find it difficult to stand for God Save the Queen and to all the young players who aspire to play for Northern Ireland.
Precedents have already been set, not only by the adoption of Phil Coulter’s Ireland’s Call by Ireland’s rugby fraternity, but also by the use of Danny Boy at Commonwealth Games.
At certain tournaments the national anthem has to be played but if we could bring out something like Ireland’s Call, everyone could stand for a Northern Ireland song.
I think instead of seeing it as losing an anthem, we could see it more about, like when I was playing rugby in Dublin and I stood for the Soldier’s Song.

I also understand that Northern Ireland football fans really want everyone to be welcome at Windsor Park. We have We’re Not Brazil We’re Northern Ireland and today there’s a lot of craic and a great family atmosphere.
We should think about asking somebody like Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol to write a song for us because it would be 99% better than anything anyone else would write.
