A shotgun cartridge has been found at an Alliance Party constituency office in County Antrim.

It was discovered in a plastic box tied to the lock of premises in West Street, Carrickfergus, this morning.

Alliance East Antrim assembly member Stewart Dickson said his party would not be intimidated.

He added: "This is yet another senseless attack on the hard-working Alliance team in East Antrim and the local community, many of whom rely on the constituency services that we provide.

"There is absolutely no justification for this level of intimidation and there should be no place in our society for those who wish to spread fear and intimidation.

"Those behind this unjustifiable attack do not speak for the majority of residents in East Antrim, who want to see a peaceful future for our area and Northern Ireland as a whole."

There have been several attacks on Alliance properties following a Belfast City Council vote in December 2012 restricting the flying of the union flag at the City Hall to designated days.

Last week there was a hoax bomb alert at the party's office in east Belfast.
