Mickey Harte was still coping with the death of his brother when it emerged that his only daughter had been murdered on her honeymoon.

The Tyrone boss, who bravely spoke about his love for Michaela outside his Glencull Road home, was struggling since his brother, Peter, died in October.

A family friend said Peter Harte, who grew up in Ballymacilroy, Co Tyrone, had moved to Knockbridge, Co Louth.

However, he was still "very close" to Mickey when he died from a brain tumour.

He was laid to rest in the local cemetery in Ballymacilroy where Michaela is expected to be buried on Monday.

Peter Harte, a former President of Comhairle Uladh CLG, also served as President of the Ulster Council from 1980-1983, during a very difficult period of history in the North of Ireland.

He was described as an "outright leader" who kept the GAA focused during the hunger strikes.

It's understood that another member of the Harte family is now unwell, and deeply affected by the tragedy.

The GAA community have shown tremendous support to Mickey since Michaela was killed.

Parish priest Fr Michael Seery said that Michaela was a "lively, vivacious girl" who was "very committed" to her faith.
