Film fans were given a chance to get up close and personal with Northern Ireland’s leading man, James Nesbitt at an intimate event at The Merchant Hotel, Belfast.

The novel ‘A Night with James Nesbitt’ event, took place in the sumptuous surroundings of The Merchant’s Great Room Restaurant, providing a select audience with a unique opportunity to hear first-hand about Nesbitt’s rise to stardom.

In a style similar to Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, BBC broadcaster and long-time friend, Mark Carruthers put Nesbitt in the hot seat, probing him on events from his childhood and memories of Northern Ireland, right through to tales of life in the bright lights of Hollywood, while guests enjoyed a sumptuous six course meal.

The Hobbit actor, who is also Chancellor of the University of Ulster delivered a unique night that guests will likely never forget, joining a number of tables for separate courses throughout the evening.

Speaking at the event, Nesbitt said: “The Merchant Hotel holds a special place in my heart and has been a regular home from home when I’m back in Northern Ireland. In particular, The Great Room Restaurant, with its sensational food served against such a stunning backdrop, is one of my favourite places in the city.

“Mark and I go back a long time – in theatrical terms, I suppose you could say he was the Oliver to my Artful Dodger 35 years ago – it was wonderful to join with him for this unique and memorable night at The Merchant.”
