Two babies have developed a skin infection at Belfast's Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital.

Staff are being screened after two children were confirmed with the exfoliative staphylococcal infection, which produces blisters, and a third was presumed to have it.

Medical director Tony Stevens said: "I am glad to say that the two babies who have developed this infection have made a very quick and healthy recovery and are now back home with their parents.

"This is a very rare condition and we are simply screening staff as a precaution. If parents have any concerns about their babies we would advise that they contact their GP in the first instance."
