Hotels to provide creature comforts

Devoted pet owners will now be able to take their best friends on holiday anywhere in Northern Ireland.

More than 500 Northern Ireland Tourist Board-certified accommodation providers have now opened their doors to holidaying families and their pets.

Animal lovers can be assured of finding a comprehensive list of suitable B&Bs, guest houses, self-catering accommodation and hotels throughout the country.

NITB Destination PR Officer Nigel Tilson says the tourist board recognised the need for such a survey as pet-friendly accommodation was a "constant" factor for many holiday makers.

He said: "Some owners find it stressful to leave pets at home and it can also be very costly to find someone to look after them while they are away."

The survey found that 173 pet-friendly accommodation providers welcomed pets inside, with 276 allowing pets to remain outdoors and 60 allowing pets by prior arrangement. Whether indoor or out, pets can now be assured of a place to stay in even the classiest of holidaying hotspots including Belfast's Malmaison Hotel.

The survey found that there's 333 self-catering options, 123 B&Bs, 26 guest houses, 24 hotels and three hostels that accept pets.
