Tennent's Vital is back this year at Boucher Road playing fields in Belfast, with Tennessee rockers Kings of Leon unveiled as the first headline act.
The Grammy award-wining family four-piece will play Vital on Wednesday, August 14. Details of the second date and line-up will be announced within the next few weeks.
But while the announcement will be music to the ears of thousands of gig-goers, some Belfast residents may not be so thrilled. Last year, dozens of Belfast householders complained to police and contacted the council's dedicated noise hotline over their objections to volume levels at the Foo Fighters gig.
Fans of Kings of Leon will be delighted, however, to welcome them back to Belfast. It's the second time the band - three brothers and a cousin - have performed at Tennent's Vital. They also headlined in 2005 and when they played the Odyssey Arena three years later, tickets for that show sold out within ten minutes.
The long awaited live return to Europe this summer marks the end of a two year hiatus for Kings of Leon. The band posted images of their return to the studio on their official Facebook page last week, fuelling excitement amongst fans, with anticipation for details of their sixth album rapidly growing.
The Followill brothers made a big impression when they burst onto the scene in 2003 with their debut release Youth & Young Manhood. Since then, they’ve sold out arenas across the globe and cemented their status as one of the world’s biggest and most in-demand rock bands.
The band has notched up a slew of number one platinum selling records as well as an array of accolades including BRIT Awards for Best International Band and Best International Album (Only By the Night) plus Grammys including the prestigious Record of the Year (Use Somebody) as well as Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song.
Announcing the band's Vital performance at a party in the Limelight complex last night, Nicola McCleery, Head of Marketing for Tennent’s NI, said: "We’re incredibly excited that Kings of Leon will be taking to the stage at the festival this August, as we’re sure our fans will be.
"They’re one of the finest bands in the world and a phenomenal live act, and I’m sure they’ll treat us to an unmissable set.
"Since its return in 2011, Tennent’s Vital has sealed its place as the highlight of Northern Ireland’s music calendar and we’re delighted that our partners at MCD have secured another huge international act for this summer. We’ll have more news on the rest of the line up next month with many more top acts in store. Details will be revealed very soon.”
Tickets for Kings of Leon at Tennent's Vital on Wednesday, August 14, go on sale this Friday, April 12 at 9am.
