Police in Lurgan have appealed for help in identifying a driver who overtook several cars to cut through a railway barrier.
Inspector Leslie Badger issued a warning about the dangers of ignoring railway safety barriers after the incident in the William Street area of the Co Armagh town on the afternoon of Saturday, October 1.
At around 3.05pm a small, blue van overtook a number of cars stopping for the William Street barrier and cut through the crossing, heading towards the M1 motorway.
Insp Badger said: “It is foolhardy in the extreme to ignore safety barriers around railway lines. Not only are you putting yourself at risk, but you are also risking the lives of every road user around you and railway passengers.”
Police are keen to speak to the driver of the blue van or anyone who witnessed the incident and can be contacted in Lurgan on 0845 600 8000.
