Lifeline for vulnerable in Antrim to close

A vital ‘lifeline’ centre for people with special needs is to close because of funding problems.

Vulnerable young adults openly wept at Antrim’s Bridge Association training centre this week when they were told their beloved centre, which has been providing respite for 25 years will shut its shutters for good.

Councillor Adrian Watson, a Director at Bridge, confirmed last night that they had been given no prior warning of cuts which have led to its fate.

It is understood that a disagreement between the centre and local health trust over its contract and funding have led to the situation which has contributed to its closure.
