Man attacked with spade during burglary

A Downpatrick man was struck on the legs with a spade during an aggravated burglary at his home.

The householder was attacked after two assailants forced their way into his property in the Strangford Avenue area at about 10.30am on Sunday.

Carrying a garden fork and spade, the pair struck their victim on the legs before he handed over a sum of money.

He was then tied to a bed before the intruders made off on foot. The victim was not injured, but was left badly shaken.

The first man is described as being in his late teens, of medium height, while the second was in his late 30s and bald-headed.

Detectives have asked anyone with any information on the attack to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
