A man has walked free from court with a three-year probation order after being caught with more than two million images of children being abused.
The order was handed to 55-year-old Carey Lyons at Belfast Crown Court but he was back in court today to allow His Honour Judge Kinney to vary his lifelong Sexual Offences Prevention Order to bar him from ever having any technology that has internet capabilities or from owning a digital camera or any digital storage device.
After the short hearing Lyons, from University Street in Belfast, donned sunglasses and left the court quickly.
Last week the judge heard there were so many images found on Lyons' computer that police could only examine 36,000 of the total of 2,242,964.
Lyons, who has a string of similar convictions dating back to 1973, had already served 13 months behind bars and in imposing the three year probation order, Judge Kinney said he believed this would best serve and better protect the public interest.
